How The Basketball Greats Leap and Dunk With Power

October 10, 2009

We all know that the the greatest dunkers of all time were born with some form of super-human powers. How can these allstars of the game like Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Vince Carter and Allen Iverson launch themselves so high and dunk with so much ease and control.

The Michael Jordan Dunks leave us in awe of this great basketball superstar.

Its assumed by many that some of it is just a talent given at birth. The ability to jump really high for a start can be in-built but many basketball superstars have put in a lot of unseen work with special exercises to get the most from their natural jumping abilities.

Being able to jump 30-40 inches off the ground is obviously a massive positive when it comes to those awesome dunks we see during the NBA season and the yearly dunking competitions amongst the games greatest.

And when a player leaves the ground it takes supreme confidence and ability to pull off the stunning dunks we have come to admire and love from these great players. The ability to do a full 360 mid-air twist, finishing with a powerful dunk, isnt natural, so as you can imagine it takes hours of practice to get those moves perfected.

Other moves like the under-leg catch and dunk are something, like Kobe Bryant Dunks which can go badly wrong if not done with 100% confidence. And it is these types of moves, which we all dream about doing. One of the major issues though is, unlike the top basketball stars we dont want to put in the time and effort to achieve these results and the more they do the more it looks its impossible for us mere mortals.

So, if you are looking to impress with your massive dunks then concentrate on getting your vertical leap sorted first and then follow that up with some serious practice time on getting the in air moves sorted. And in order to get some ideas on the moves you will need to spend some time studying the many hours of basketball dunk video you will be able to see online, where you can even capture the moves in fine detail by watching the moves in slow motion.

Now, go get dunking!
